June 17: Join Us for a Live Online Q&A About High Holiday Hospitality

Early last month, the URJ hosted its very first “YamJam in The Tent,” a live, moderated Q&A session in the URJ’s online collaborative social media platform, The Tent. URJ moderators posed questions, and everyone in virtual attendance has the opportunity to respond to share information and expertise.

Our first YamJam focused on the different ways congregations welcome new members, and I had the incredible honor of hosting it with friends and colleagues from Program and Engagement Professionals of Reform Judaism (PEP-RJ) and the National Association of Temple Administration (NATA). We were all a little nervous before the event began; we had never done this before, and we didn’t know if anyone would even show up! Participation in these live Q&As doesn't require a reservation, so we were just going on faith that people would show up and share their experiences.

And they did!

After posting the first question, my fellow hosts and I watched and waited... and then the responses began to roll in. A board member from Allentown, PA introduced himself. A membership chair from Oklahoma City. A program director from Madison, WI. An Executive Director from Richmond, VA. We heard from lay and professional leaders from all different corners of North America who introduced themselves, making vital connections and sharing valuable expertise.

By the time we were done, attendees had been exposed to new, creative ideas and had the opportunity to share their own experiences and expertise. Together, we formed a real sense of community. Couldn't make it to the first YamJam? You can find a summary in The Tent.

Now, we invite you to join us for our next YamJam in The Tent on Wednesday, June 17th at 4:00 p.m. EDT, co-sponsored again with our friends at NATA. This event will be hosted in the Worship group of The Tent, focused on the delicate balance congregations sometimes walk during the High Holidays - which are coming up before you know it! How can we keep our synagogues safe and comfortable while also being warm and welcoming? How do we welcome the stranger while requiring for tickets? How can we peacefully atone for our transgressions with an armed guard patrolling the lobby?

There's no software to download and no reservations to be made. Just log into the Worship group of The Tent on June 17th at 4:00 p.m. EDT for what is sure to be an exciting, rewarding conversation. In the meantime, if you have questions about this YamJam, email us. We look forward to seeing you there!
