What to Expect When You Worship with Us at the URJ Biennial

Worship is always a highlight of the URJ Biennial, and the 2019 convention will be no exception. Nowhere is Shabbat prayer like it is at Biennial, where more than 5,000 Reform Jews join with dynamic clergy, an expert band, and a 100-person volunteer choir of members of Reform congregations.

Here's a sneak peek at what to expect:

  • Weekday Daily Worship: Each weekday of the Biennial, choose from a variety of morning (shacharit) and afternoon (maariv) worship experiences, ranging from the traditional to the modern, the conventional to the creative – something new every day.
  • Welcome Shabbat with Our Entire Community: Join Reform Jews from around the worldfor a spiritual Kabbalat Shabbat service that invites us into the warmth and beauty of Shabbat – a chance to breathe, reflect, sing, worship, and celebrate.
  • Shabbat Morning Worship with 5,000+ Friends: Again as a community, we'll elevate the joy of Shabbat and connect us to faith and justice through Torah text and shared moments of reflection and joy.
  • Saying Shavua Tov – Together: Saturday evening's plenary will begin with a moving Havdalah service that celebrates the start of a new week and honors our shared faith and values.
  • A Prayerful Goodbye: On Sunday morning, join us for one last service together: During the Biennial's concluding services, we'll look toward the 2021 Biennial, to be held outside Washington, D.C. – and we'll say l'hitraot, see you soon.

You'll also bring home innovative worship ideas: In addition to worshipping together, we'll also learn together about new trends and options in Reform worship, see and interact with dozens of artists-in-residence, and go deep on issues like copyright compliance and streaming services.

You won't want to miss any of these powerful, meaningful Biennial worship opportunities. Head to our Worship page for more about each of these opportunities, then download the Biennial app and check out the full schedule (look for the Music Lab track and learning sessions with a "worship" tag) to start planning your time at the Biennial now!
