High Holidays 5780, College Edition: 4 Vital Resources for the Holiday Season

September 24, 2019The URJ College Leadership Team

It’s a busy time of year for Jewish college students: Between school, work, and all the other things in our lives that pull us in so many different directions, we can’t forget that the High Holidays are fast approaching!

Here are just a few ways that Reform Jewish college students can have the most rewarding, inclusive, and comfortable High Holidays experience this year.

1. Incorporate these vibrant additions to your campus High Holidays experience.

If you’re planning on spending the High Holidays with your on-campus Jewish community - and especially if you're helping to plan those on-campus experiences - be sure to check out these suggestions for ways to make your campus experience more meaningful and spirited, from incorporating relevant pop culture touchpoints to raising up a diversity of voices.

2. Connect with a local congregation, no matter where you are.

If you’re interested in attending High Holiday services at a local synagogue, we want to make sure that you have all the resources at your fingertips to find the perfect congregation. Find a URJ congregation that offers High Holiday opportunities for non-members. If you're studying abroad, use the WUPJ “Find a Community “ app to locate a Reform/Progressive or Reconstructionist synagogue in 51 countries around the world.

Have more questions about High Holidays tickets or services, or want to help friends and family find a Jewish community this season? Check out "How to Find a High Holiday Community Wherever You Are" - and don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions.

3. Turn on our Rosh HaShanah playlist on Spotify.

Can you think of a better way to welcome the new year than a brand-new Spotify playlist, created specifically to usher us into 5780? This is the perfect playlist to listen to between classes, in the car, while hanging out with friends, or just relaxing and reflecting on the past year and the year to come. No prayers, no Avinu Malkeinu, just good music to help you get in a Rosh HaShanah state of mind. From Hamilton to Jason Mraz, Imagine Dragons to The Beatles, we think you're gonna love it. Listen now, and don't forget to share it with friends.

4. Host a Yom Kippur break-fast.

The URJ has funds available so that you - yes, you! - can host a Yom Kippur break-fast that will be the talk of your campus for the year to come. Complete this quick and easy form to receive up to $100 from the URJ to help you plan an awesome break-fast - then head over to ReformJudaism.org to find the perfect Jewish recipes for your event and all year long.

How are you observing the High Holidays this year? Touch base with the URJ on social media and let us know. We'd love to hear from you!
