Development Associate, Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism

What is the RAC?

For 50 years, the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism ("the RAC") has been the hub of Jewish social justice and legislative activity in Washington, D.C. As the DC office of the Union for Reform Judaism, the RAC educates and mobilizes the Reform Jewish community on legislative and social concerns, advocating on more than 70 different issues, including economic justice, civil rights, religious liberty, Israel and more. The RAC's work can be divided into four main areas: advocating for legislation on Capitol Hill and with the Administration; supporting URJ congregations in their social action programming and advocacy; working in coalition with other advocacy organizations; and running conferences and programs for all ages. 

Position Summary:

The Development Associate plays a critical role by providing operational coordination for the Development Department and participating in all fundraising activities including donor relations, stewardship, and data management. The Development Associate works closely with the Development and Communications teams to implement and coordinate effective multi-year strategies and plans for major gift prospects and donors, including institutional givers. The position reports to the RAC Development Director and is based out of the RAC office in Washington, D.C.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage constituent and donor data, including prospect research, using Salsa/Salesforce CRM and prospecting software.
    • Assist in researching foundations, grants, gathering materials for proposals and applications, as needed.
  • Assist with management of the major gift pipeline. Maintain an organized moves management system, noting who needs to be contacted, when, and why.
  • Extract and prepare all fundraising reports both for internal and external use.
  • This role is a member of the planning team for major donor events and donor engagement programming including, but not limited to, conference calls, webinars, meet and greets, and travel opportunities.
  • Respond to external and internal requests for information, materials, or assistance, in writing and on the telephone.
  • Coordinate and project manage multifaceted projects, setting realistic milestones and deadlines, and manage an organized timeline.
  • Other duties, including working on RAC special events and scheduling development appointments for RAC Director and Development Director.
  • Other tasks as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree and 2-3 years fundraising experience, including management of donor pipeline, or equivalent experience.
  • Deep understanding and facile user of MS Excel (and Microsoft Office).
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge and Salesforce preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, take initiative, and work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Willingness and facility with learning new skills.
  • Preferred experience with and/or interest in social justice and public policy.
  • Knowledge of the Jewish community and the Reform Jewish Movement preferred.
