Development Associate, URJ Camp Newman

Overview and Purpose:

The Development Associate will support the Director of Development and the lay leadership in all the Camp’s development efforts. They will be exposed to and participate in all aspects of fundraising, gift processing, and grant seeking and writing that support the vision of our capital campaign, annual scholarship campaign, and opportunities for niche grants that align with our mission. The Associate will report directly to the Director of Development and will work closely with the Camp’s lay leadership and senior leadership of the URJ.

What you’ll do as our Development Associate:

  • Implement the road map for fundraising programs for capital and scholarship in consultation with camp leadership, professional and lay, and with guidance from development consultants.
  • Work closely with lay leadership, directing and managing their participation in development efforts and the camp committee.
  • Assistance the Director of Development, coordinating and managing participation in development efforts.
  • Coordinate all communications and public relations for the camp’s fundraising efforts, including, but not limited to: Press releases, event publicity, web communication, and more.
  • Oversee day-to-day administration of all development programs, including the acknowledgment and record-keeping process.
  • Manage lay development committee and board giving.
  • Work to help streamline and maintain data to build out a robust alumni database
  • Continually works to elevate each of these individual efforts to broaden awareness of our progress and growth.

Donor Data Management

  • Manager the Donor Database, making sure all donations are entered and acknowledged properly; over time, we will develop a keen understanding of individual and collective donor patterns, and what does & does not work.
  • Manage and execute the donor acknowledgment process.

Camp Alumni Association

  • Coordinate all communications and public relations for the camp’s alumni association, including, but not limited to: Press releases, event publicity, web communication, and more.
  • Provide day-to-day administration of the alumni association.
  • Coordinate and supervise all alumni visits to camp in the summer


  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence, and documents.
  • Ability to comfortably and capably speak to individuals and groups, both formally and informally.
  • Familiarity with Judaism, Jewish education, and leadership development – a meaningful understanding of the Jewish camping is highly desirable.
  • Broad skill and comfort with a wide range of technology, including PowerPoint, Excel, GroupMail, Raiser’s Edge.
  • An eagerness to travel.
