Director of Education

 

Temple Beth Israel Center for Jewish Life in Eugene, Oregon is a progressive, active diverse 375 household synagogue community engaged in Jewish, religious, cultural and educational programming throughout the year. We teach and live our values, customs, language, rituals, Tikkun Olam and connection with Israel and the rest of the world from a Reconstructionist Jewish perspective. We seek an energetic, knowledgeable, passionate, innovative and collaborative educator to join our team.

The Director of Education will manage multi-generational learning at Temple Beth Israel. They will lead our twice-weekly Talmud Torah program(K-B’nai Mitzvah, currently) including cohort classes, Hebrew classes, and a variety of electives focused on Jewish culture, texts, and values, to name a few. The Director of Education will oversee multigenerational programs and adult education, and build a sustainable teen program. Responsibilities include the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of education staff, curriculum development and could include training of ritual lay leaders and more.

Core Competencies The ideal candidate must have:

  • Intimate knowledge of Jewish tradition and Hebrew language
  • Experience with effective teaching methodology for different types of learners
  • Successful development and implementation of effective and innovative educational experiences and programs
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with all ages
  • Comfort managing multiple projects for different age-cohorts

Full Time position: $60,000-$70,000 base salary commensurate with experience. Additional benefits include health insurance, synagogue membership, subsidized preschool tuition, free

Talmud Torah tuition paid parental leave, professional development budget, paid vacation, sick

leave, Flexible Spending Account, retirement contribution. Rabbis may be eligible for IRS

parsonage designation.
