Director of Engagement and Administration

Congregation Beth Torah is a vibrant, modern, Reform Jewish congregation located in Overland Park, Kansas. We offer our diverse congregants multiple paths to experience Judaism, including energizing worship with creative, meaningful prayer and music; robust social justice programming; learning opportunities for all ages; and deep personal and community connections.  We welcome all who are interested in an open, warm, inclusive Reform Jewish community to join us.  We are seeking a full-time administrator to join the dynamic leadership team of this amazing congregation.



CBT’s Director of Engagement and Administration is a key member of the leadership team developing strategies and overseeing operations and activities. The Director plays a critical role developing and implementing membership engagement and retention programs and assuring smooth daily operations. The Director reports to the Senior Rabbi and works closely with other staff and the Board of Trustees to define and implement CBT’s vision of a strong, dynamic and connected community.

● Develop and execute a proactive relational-based membership recruitment plan which includes comprehensive attraction and communication strategies and programs.

● Represent CBT in appropriate Jewish and non-Jewish community, regional and national forums and events to strengthen CBT visibility and brand



● Develop and execute a proactive relational-based membership engagement plan which includes comprehensive engagement and communication strategies and programs.

● Work with the staff and volunteers to proactively orient, connect and integrate new members into congregational life.



● Supervise maintenance of the membership database to ensure accurate membership records.

● Work in concert with the Senior Rabbi, Finance Director and the Board of Trustees to address areas of concern regarding lapsed members, resignations, nonpayment of commitments and inactive members.

● Consult with members and/or prospective members on financial obligation options so money does not become an obstacle to joining or sustaining CBT membership.



●Recruit, train, develop, supervise, evaluate and terminate administrative, financial and support staff.

● Establish personnel guidelines and policies, and maintain personnel manual, subject to the approval of the Board of Directors.

● Implement personnel policies and administer employee compensation and benefits.

● Ensure gatherings in the building or at CBT sponsored events are safe for all in attendance.



●  Collaborate with Senior Rabbi and Board of Trustees on future visioning and the development and execution of a strategic plans to achieve the desired future state.

●  Collaborate with the Senior Rabbi, president, and committee chairs to ensure board work is conducted efficiently and effectively.

● Ensure policies, budgets and other directives of the Senior Rabbi and Board of Trustees are implemented.

●  Work with Senior Rabbi and President to develop future Board of Trustee and committee leadership.

● Participate in local, regional, and national opportunities to network, lead and learn to advance expertise in leadership, management and/or lay leadership.

●  Work closely with Board leadership and staff to develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan to include campaigns, legacy giving, grants and other philanthropic means to ensure the future viability of CBT.



● Collaborate with Senior Rabbi and Board of Trustees to develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and communication strategy to integrate and infuse all channels with common messaging and approach.

●  Maintain all calendar and communication tools and supervise staff and volunteers in charge of each tool.



The ideal candidate is a proficient idea generator who can carry those ideas through to implementation. The ideal candidate must also be a skilled supervisor and motivator who can effectively manage the complex operations of the organization.



●  Extensive knowledge of Reform Jewish values, rituals, customs, life-cycle events and holiday practices

●  Strong interpersonal skills to relate effectively with clergy, staff, lay leadership, volunteers and members of the congregation

●  Exceptional oral and written communication skills

●  Ability to manage and prioritize multiple ongoing and developing tasks while following through on short- and long-term responsibilities

●  Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with maturity, discretion, and professionalism

●  Experience developing strategies for marketing/communications, future planning, and programming

● Availability to work most Friday nights, Saturday mornings and Sunday morning



●  Proven track record of relationship-based member recruitment, engagement and retention programming

●  Fundraising experience

●  Experience in operations and personnel management in comparable size organization

●  Demonstrated knowledge of financial and budgeting practices



This is a full-time position with some flexibility in hours, offering health insurance, paid vacation and sick days, congregation membership, professional membership association dues and related conference expense reimbursement.

● Hours: full-time to include required evenings, weekends and Jewish holidays work

● Salary: $55,000-$65,000 depending on experience

● Relocation assistance up to $5000 expense reimbursement for successful candidates outside of KS/MO.
