Hebrew School Teacher

Congregation Shir Hadash is a Reform congregation located in Los Gatos, CA, in the heart of Silicon Valley, affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism.

The congregation is a vibrant and well established mid-sized congregation of roughly 600 family units, dedicated to providing a vital Jewish life, spiritual growth, and a sense of community for its members. The Hebrew school

(3-6) meets on Monday or Tuesday afternoons from 4:00pm-6: 00 pm.

We are seeking individuals to teach in our Hebrew school program and have experience working with youth or are interested in working with youth in a supplemental Jewish school program.  Our Hebrew curriculum is primarily prayer-based and utilizes a curriculum that focuses on prayer meaning in addition to reading fluency.  We are looking for a teacher to work with our 4th and 5th-grade students on Mondays and Tuesdays.

We value creative teaching as well as cooperative, active learning. We believe that simply learning the material is not enough -- students must make Judaism their own. Our teachers strive to involve students actively in their learning and to inspire them to be invested in their Jewish education.

We also recognize that different students learn in different ways.

Educational theory teaches us that each of us has our own intelligence – our own ways of learning and understanding. We endeavor to meet the needs of all types of learners – from those that learn best through hands-on activities to those who learn best through discussion and creative writing.

Finally, we understand that Jewish learning is about more than learning, it is about belonging. We strive to create together a community where families, students, and other members of our congregation feel a strong sense of belonging to our community and to the larger Jewish world.

Interested candidates should contact Rabbi PJ Schwartz, Rabbi Educator at  Please include a resume and references.
