HR Manager, Employee Engagement and Inclusion

Overview and Purpose:

This is a new and exciting opportunity at the Union for Reform Judaism to join a team focused on ensuring a best-in-class employee experience. The HR Manager, Employee Engagement and Inclusion will ensure that we are consistently improving HR practices to build an agile, collaborative, inclusive organizational culture that is reflective of the diverse make-up of the Jewish community and community-at-large. They will partner with other HR colleagues to make attracting, retaining and developing diverse talent a high priority across the URJ. The HR Manager, Employee Engagement and Inclusion will implement and use data to help managers create and implement work plans that improve engagement, organizational practices, and overall employee performance. They will also be responsible for advising on employee relations and performance-related issues so that individuals and teams can thrive and do their best work consistently.

You can work at all levels to provide advice and counsel to managers and supervisors regarding personnel practices, employee relations, policies, and employment laws and assist in employee relations to better empower staff and managers at all levels to succeed.

What you’ll do as our HR Manager, Employee Engagement and Inclusion: 

  • Cultivate and promote a workplace that clears the way for URJ employees to do their best work and is grounded in HR practices that foster understanding, equity and inclusion
  • Introduce and reinforce existing work practices that build community among teams and break down silos for shared success
  • Oversee end-to-end employee engagement; coordinate regular polling, analysis, communication and follow up to continuously improve culture and factors that impact engagement
  • Create and manage an employee handbook that reflects our culture and community
  • Partner with HR colleagues to create processes and tools that build engagement and inclusion at all points in the journey of the employee
  • Partner with HR Manager, Talent, and other organizational leaders to attract, recruit, hire, retain and develop diverse talent
  • Serve as primary point-of-contact on employee relations issues for all staff including those represented by the bargaining unit; coordinate systems, tools, and training to help managers deal with day-to-day situations proactively
  • Work as a member of the HR team and in partnership with internal and external DEI experts to design and implement HR practices and training to broaden diversity and equity in the workplace
  • Communicate and manage an ongoing, effective performance feedback process that is grounded in clear, consistent and open dialogue between employee and manager
  • Support managers on outcome-based performance; coach on best practices for goal setting, recognition, and constructive feedback, fostering an environment of transparency and shared success
  • Advise managers and employees on strategies to improve performance; counsel managers to assist them in resolving performance issues fairly and equitably
  • Use data to make recommendations that improve individual and organizational performance through a DEI lens Coach managers on practices to create a high-performing, inclusive culture that complies with federal and state laws and reflects the values of the URJ

You Have:

  • 5 years of Human Resources experience including work in employee relations and employee engagement;
  • Experience working with Labor Unions a plus
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies and programs in a growing organization
  • Excellent project management and operational skills
  • Ability to handle complex issues with discretion, serving as a mediator and guide to successful conflict resolution across all levels of the organization
  • Superior analytical skills with the ability to use data to create, develop and execute positive people strategies
  • Ability to communicate successfully across the organization, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated experience as a hands-on doer who loves building and executing positive and impactful people programs
  • Excel at, and deeply enjoy, partnering with team members on delivering programs and events
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required
