Leadership Institute Manager

The Leadership Institute Manager is responsible for the development, initiation, implementation, management, collaboration, and evaluation of programming for the URJ Leadership Institute. The position places a premium on team work, communication, active listening, and strategic thinking skills and reports directly to the Director of the Leadership Institute.

Essential Functions:

  • Apply best principles in leadership development and education to create new leadership development programs and resources; both general and on specific topics as determined by the Leadership Institute team.
  • As part of the Leadership Institute team, develop, implement, lead, and teach new and existing leadership development programs.
  • Collaborate with the Director of the Leadership Institute, Leadership Institute staff, other members of the Strengthening Congregations Team and lay partners. When appropriate collaborate with other URJ teams.
  • Build sacred partnerships with colleagues, lay partners and congregational leaders, both lay and professional.
  • Execute all offerings in a manner that aligns with advancing the mission of the URJ, the Leadership Institute, and Strengthening Congregations
  • Assist in documenting and marketing the work of the Leadership Institute
  • Work with URJ staff, URJ and external faculty to deliver Leadership Institute programs
  • Support the flow of content and congregational leaders across all parts of the Strengthening Congregations team, and between it and other parts of the URJ
  • Attend Leadership Institute programs as appropriate


  • A minimum of three years of congregational programmatic and/or congregational education experience
  • Knowledge of leadership in a congregational setting, leadership best practices and principles
  • Educational program development skills
  • Deep knowledge of congregations
  • Basic Jewish textual knowledge 
  • An understanding of, and successful experience in, outstanding customer/client service
  • Consistent success in completing tasks in a timely fashion
  • Ability to ask probing questions coupled with superb active listening skills
  • Excellent networking, connecting, and diplomacy skills
  • Knowledge of the URJ organization preferred
