Messaging & Branding Manager

Overview and Purposes  

The newly created Messaging and Branding team, which sits within URJ’s central Marketing & Communications department, seeks someone passionate about communicating about Reform Jewish life and the various institutions and programs that make up the Reform Movement.   

This position will serve as the leader of this team and partner with the leaders of the other core Marketing & Communications teams: Audience Engagement, Publicity & Public Relations, and Creative, Design & Production, to develop and oversee the execution of URJ’s Marketing & Communications strategy, initiatives, and content.

The Marketing and Communications team is responsible for programmatic, online fundraising, and online advocacy marketing. In addition, the team leads the press relations, online presence, social media, design, and branding and messaging of the URJ across multiple audiences and continually broadens the potential reach of the organization.  

What You’ll Do  

As part of the senior Marketing & Communications team, the Messaging & Branding Manager will:  

· Bring priorities and recommendations to Marketing & Communications leadership team to determine and guide the organization with a focus on high-impact messaging and branding opportunities and activities to engage internal and external audiences  

· Develop, evolve and manage URJ’s brand that is considerate of and integrates URJ’s multiple brands to build overall visibility and reputation of URJ to engage diverse audiences  

· Develop and implement a global messaging & branding strategy built upon URJ’s overarching narrative and messages and includes multiple platforms and channels for its targeted programs and audiences  

Essential Functions  

The Messaging and Branding Manager will be responsible for:  

· Ensuring the branding and messaging team is aligned with the priorities of the Marketing & Communication team and that work fits within the strategic direction of the organization  

· Developing marketing campaign materials around the strategic priorities across the organization, ensuring all materials and messages reinforces the brand  

· Developing high-impact, tailored and branded content to audiences across various media channels that showcase the impact of URJ’s programs; this includes but not limited to URJ’s websites, annual report, social media content, blogs, newsletters, programmatic materials, and evergreen marketing materials   

· Curating, editing and/or creating content, developing standards around tone, language, and style   

· Working with URJ leadership to create and/or edit various pieces of thought leadership for internal and external use  

· Developing and maintaining relationships with writers and opinion makers throughout the Reform Movement  

· Developing, managing and enforcing URJ’s marketing & communications policies and guidelines including the use of branding guidelines, style guidelines, and organizational priorities  

· Maintaining a deep understanding of Reform Jewish practice, standards, and ideology in order to properly write, edit or vet content    

You Have  

· Minimum of 4 years in marketing & communications, curating, editing, writing high-impact and high-visibility content for an organization that reinforces brands  

· At least 3 years of management experience overseeing a team, preferably of writers and branding professionals   

· Experience and ability to translate organizational priorities and vision into a messaging and branding strategy   

· Deep understanding of URJ’s mission and values
