Office Manager

BACKGROUND AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

We’re looking for the right person to manage the administration of the synagogue front office as we continue to evolve and expand. The qualities we seek include organizational skills (with many moving parts), and a strong ability and desire to work independently as well as collaboratively with lay members, clergy, TBE personnel, vendors and members of the community.

Essential qualities also include computer competency, good communication skills, adaptability, reliability, and willingness to take initiative.

The candidate will appreciate being a part of a warm, unique and welcoming environment.

The ideal person is highly organized, detail-oriented, responsible and personable (in writing, in-person and on the phone) who is able to multitask and prioritize responsibly. They should have experience with all aspects of running an office.

The Office Manager will manage day to day operations of the Temple Office (i.e. phones, filing, management of member/donor data, supply management, staff and vendor scheduling, website maintenance, coordination, and support), building management (i.e. coordinating events, facilitating maintenance needs and fielding and facilitating rental requests) and other miscellaneous office support (i.e. receiving and routing inquiries, scheduling, copying).

Examples of some routine responsibilities include monitoring of the synagogue calendar, event organization, coordination of congregational communication (i.e. temple newsletter emails, notes of gratitude, yahrzeits and membership data). Office interaction with bookkeeping service, facilities oversight and administrative support of Clergy and lay leaders including but not limited to drafting correspondence and copying/printing materials.

The position reports to the Financial Secretary and will support the Rabbi, Cantor, TBE officers and board committee chairs, as needed.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

We prefer individuals applying to have three to five years of related experience, in a synagogue or non-profit environment, be comfortable using various computer systems and software programs, such as Word, Excel, Google Docs/Sheets/Slides, Rakefet and Constant Contact. Applicants should have a pleasant demeanor, be able to maintain confidentiality and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of Jewish holidays and customs is preferred. College degree preferred.

HOURS OF WORK:

• 5 days per week with some flexibility.

• 10 paid holidays per year – employee’s choice

•  2 weeks paid personal time off / vacation per year

•  Payroll direct deposit

Salary: $15 - $18/ hour
