Philanthropy Associate, WRJ

Overview and Purpose:

The Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ) Philanthropy Associate will serve as the point person for donors and grantees. They will be a key person in the Development department with a specific focus on philanthropy. They will assist in campaign development and execution and take a lead role in planning and implementing WRJ donor and fundraising events.


You love networking and getting others to join you in changing the world. You have a passion for fundraising and writing pieces that support the vision of the organization. You can create, articulate and execute a vision for the growth and success of the Reform and Progressive Jewish Movements. You have previous experience working with and engaging board and committee members. You have excellent communication skills and a relatable and professional manner. You are creative and have keen attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. You have the ability to follow directions from multiple stakeholders and a desire to think outside of the box when it comes to donor relations.


Women of Reform Judaism is the women’s affiliate of the Union for Reform Judaism, the central body of Reform Judaism in North America. Established in 1913, WRJ now represents about 35,000 women in over 350 women’s groups in North America and around the world. Its mission is to strengthen the voice of women worldwide and empower them to create caring communities, nurture congregations, cultivate personal and spiritual growth, and advocate for and promote progressive Jewish values. WRJ educates and trains sisterhood and congregational leaders in the areas of membership, fundraising, leadership skills, advocacy for social justice, and innovative and spiritual programming.

What you’ll do as our Philanthropy Associate:


Donor Relations

  • Serve as the first point of contact for donors via phone and email
  • Assist in the coordination of annual and special campaigns alongside Philanthropy Manager
  • Contribute and collaborate in the creation and dissemination of financial and narrative fundraising reports
  • Facilitate mid-year status reports and YES Fund honors
  • Assist with planning and implementing some of WRJ’s fundraising and donor events
  • Work with Manager of Philanthropy in facilitating work of board giving and board alumni (Chai Society)
  • Design outreach for planned giving (Ner Tamid Society)
  • Assist in the research of current and potential donors and possible grants

Grantee Relations

  • Facilitate relationships with grantees and share their stories for marketing and development purposes
  • Liaison to HUC-JIR (Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion; Reform seminary) - coordination with student scholarship recipients, student gifts of Women’s Torah Commentary; biennial faculty award; facilitating WRJ representation at donor events
  • Correspondence and coordination with 3 overseas seminaries and scholarship recipients: maintaining records; facilitating payments; correspondence and communications

Administrative Oversight

  • Maintain Lifeline and other pledge trackers, create reports and statements as necessary
  • Maintain fiscal year reports for auditor and facilitate collection of the necessary reports and backup requested by the auditor (with Administrative Assistants)
  • Work with Administrative Assistants to maintain donor database, ensuring clean data and proper record keeping
  • Have knowledge of the entire administrative process to serve as a backup


What You'll Bring:


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2-3 years of fundraising and/or nonprofit organizational experience
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, as well as a strong ability to edit and proofread a document
  • Self-starter – the ability to work well alone and with others.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite
  • Proven experience in project and relationship management
  • Experience with CRM software or other data management tools strongly preferred
  • Appreciation for Women of Reform Judaism’s mission, including our commitment to women’s leadership


This job is based in New York City at WRJ’s Headquarters and includes occasional weekend and evening travel to meetings and programs.
