Reform Movement Condemns Act of Anti-Semitism at Emory University

October 7, 2014, New York, NY -- In response to recent news of Anti-Semitic graffiti on a Jewish fraternity house at Emory University, URJ President Rabbi Rick Jacobs made the following statement:

We are appalled at the blatant act of anti-Semitism at Emory University last Sunday morning, October 5, when the Jewish fraternity, Alpha Epsilon Pi, was defaced with swastikas and other offensive graffiti.

This heinous act, committed just hours after the conclusion of Yom Kippuris not only an affront to this Jewish fraternity, Jewish students at Emory, and the Jewish people, but to all who value a free and open society.

We applaud Emory University President James Wagner and the Emory Student Government Association for condemning these reprehensible acts. We hope that the perpetrators will be swiftly caught and brought to justice. And we stand ready to assist the students, the fraternity, and the university in any way we can.
