New York, NY; July 10, 2017 - Statement of Rabbi Rick Jacobs, President of the Union for Reform Judaism, about the United Nations Educational, Scientific, Cultural Organization (UNESCO) resolution denying the Jewish connection to the city of Hebron:
It’s hard to fathom how UNESCO can, once again, vote to delegitimize what is demonstrated Jewish history at an ancient holy site. The place where Judaism’s patriarchs and matriarchs rest must not become a political pawn.
We support the efforts of the Israeli and United States governments to reverse this decision so that the powerful Jewish heritage of Hebron is fully recognized now and in the future.
