April 20, 2015--This week, marking the 67th Israel Independence day, Women of the Wall made history to bring us closer to the fulfillment of the promise of Israel's Declaration of Independence. Today, after a 25 year struggle for gender equality and freedom of religion, Women of the Wall read from a full size Torah at the Kotel. For decades, there have been hundreds of Torah scrolls for public use in the Kotel's men section. Today, for the first time, women got access to the Torah. The URJ stands firmly with our Reform Movement partners in Israel and with Women of the Wall in the struggle to create a new vision of religious pluralism and equality at the Western Wall.
