WHEREAS more than a decade before the establishment of the State of Israel, Reform Judaism declared in our Guiding Principles of Reform Judaism the obligation of all Jewry to aid in the upbuilding of our homeland; and

WHEREAS we, the member congregations of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, have been at the forefront of Israel's support from its birth; and

WHEREAS this support has consisted of the purchase of State of Israel Bonds and generous contributions to the United Jewish Appeal and the Israel Emergency Fund; and

WHEREAS numerous individuals of the Reform movement have made and continue to make sacrifices on behalf of the State of Israel; and

WHEREAS we are aware of the immediate and urgent need of the State of Israel for funds; and

WHEREAS our fellow Jews in Israel are struggling for their very existence; and

WHEREAS we have a moral responsibility to give every aid to Israel so that she may be victorious and be able to protect her population and establish her frontiers in lasting peace; and

WHEREAS it is the desire of this convention to express our solidarity with and total commitment to our brethren in Israel; and

WHEREAS the above-mentioned resources are urgently needed now,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this convention enlist the vigorous support of all Reform congregations and their individual members to undergird the continued financial support of Israel.
