WHEREAS, while we deplore the increased number of divorces in the United States, we recognize that where a marital relationship fails and reconciliation is impossible, Judaism has long recognized and accepted the necessity for divorce, and

WHEREAS, within the Reform movement, there has been adopted a statement on "The Enactment of Uniform Marriage, Divorce and Desertion Laws" and constituents of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations were urged to aid in such enactment (resolution of the 28th General Assembly, 1923),

BE IT NOW RESOLVED that we support that earlier resolution, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we urge, on behalf of our United States members, the revision of the divorce laws of each state so as to eliminate those practices which lead to collusion and which promote contempt for law.
