The recent national election involved many allegations of illegal and unethical activities on all levels of political life.
Since it is imperative that all Americans retain confidence in the integrity of the political process, we call upon the people of this country to insist that empowered agencies of government immediately initiate a full public inquiry into the charges of corruption raised during the recent campaign and investigate whether and to what extent police state tactics and monetary influence were used to influence the election.
Because we believe that only the weight of public opinion can effect a change in the present trend of election procedures and thus help restore public confidence in elected officials, we urge our movement to join with other religious bodies and those non-religious organizations and agencies interested in electoral reform, in calling together a high-level commission of experts in these matters to bring recommendations and support to those in positions to initiate these changes in our country's election methods.
