WHEREAS, Judge Theodore Tannenwald, Jr., has served the cause of American Reform Judaism as a member of the Board of Governors of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion for seventeen years; and
WHEREAS, his devotion to Reform Judaism's national institutions earned him the honor and position of Chairman of the Board of Governors of the College-Institute since 1973; and
WHEREAS, his statesmanlike approach - inherent to his nature and fostered by many years of service as a distinguished jurist - to the concerns of all of the national institutions of Reform Judaism and to all segments of rabbinic and lay constituency has advanced the mutual goals of these institutions;
WE, THEREFORE, the members of the Board of Trustees of the UAHC, as the patron body of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, herewith extend to Judge Theodore Tannenwald, Jr., on his retirement as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the College-Institute, our deepest thanks for his generous spirit, his astute grasp of the problems confronting our two institutions, his exemplary leadership, his warm friendship and personal caring for his associates at all levels; and further ask God's blessing upon him and his dear ones that they may enjoy abundant good health and unnumbered more years of fruitful service in the cause of Judaism and reap the joys deriving from their contributions to all mankind.
