UAHC Endowment for Reform Judaism

Adopted by the Board of Trustees
May 1992
Minneapolis, MN

BACKGROUND
Over the past few decades, the Jewish community has provided an extraordinarily generous stream of funds to Israel and to local communal agencies, which in turn have translated that tzedakah into a fount of good works and good will for both Jew and non-Jew alike.

However, in this process, the UAHC and its synagogues have too often been left to languish in limbo, compelled to fend for ourselves. We, our schools, our summer camps, and our vast array of supportive arms have no priority on the scale of Jewish communal philanthropic endeavors. Yet, it is we, the UAHC and our member synagogues, who provide the Jewish community with Jewish education, Jewish leadership training, Jewish professionals, and the creative and spiritual energy which sustains us all.

While the UAHC and its congregations are thriving at present, the vicissitudes of Jewish history warn against complacency.

It is for this reason that the UAHC Board of Trustees has launched an endowment campaign in partnership with our congregations. We applaud and support this effort to secure the financial future of both the UAHC and each of its member synagogues.

We must not let future economic uncertainty be the shaper and determiner of our Jewish tomorrow. We must guarantee that Reform Judaism will lead North American Jewry boldly into the 21st century.

THEREFORE , the Union of American Hebrew Congregations calls upon all of its member synagogues to join together with the UAHC as partners in endowing the future in order to assure a lasting Jewish legacy for our children.
