Rabbi Paula Winnig

Rabbi Paula Winnig (she/her) serves as the URJ’s director of Congregational Consulting and Transition Services. A proud “badger by birth,” she grew up at Mt. Sinai Congregation in Wausau, Wisconsin. Nearly 40 years ago, she was ordained at HUC-JIR, beginning a rabbinic journey that has taken her to congregations across North America, Guatemala, and New Zealand before returning home to Wisconsin in 2017.

In addition to her 26 years in congregational life, Rabbi Winnig earned an MBA and has led a variety of Jewish organizations. She’s also a proud mother and savta (grandmother).

When she’s not working, you’ll find her biking, traveling, cooking, or creating beautiful fiber art. If you ever visit her in Madison, she’ll happily treat you to the city’s best ice cream—and maybe even a kayak ride on one of the lakes.

Shaping Sacred Partnerships

Rabbi Paula Winnig

“When two people sit together and there are words of Torah between them, the Shechinah (Divine Presence) dwells among them” (Pirkei Avot 3:2).

These words from “Ethics of Our Ancestors” remind us of the essence of the sacred partnership and relationship
