New York, NY; July 14, 2016 -- ReformJudaism.org, the flagship website of the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ), has launched the English translations of every Torah portion to benefit the site’s two million annual visitors. The launch of these English translations of the Torah, Judaism’s most sacred text, is a significant achievement on behalf of users who want to read a modern translation.
In collaboration with CCAR Press, a division of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, the URJ now provides ReformJudaism.org users with access to the most thorough, pluralistic, and egalitarian English translations of every weekly Torah portion as they appear in the most recent edition of Rabbi W. Gunther Plaut’s world renowned volume The Torah: A Modern Commentary.
From the book of Genesis all the way through the five books of the Torah to Deuteronomy, those who are interested in text study will benefit throughout the entire year.
“Providing access to this comprehensive resource enables more people to learn and study Torah in innovative, modern ways. We are thrilled to partner with the CCAR to be able to add this new and approachable way to nurture the centrality of the Torah in Jewish life, giving us knowledge by which to study and transmit Jewish teachings and traditions through the generations,” said Rabbi Leora Kaye, URJ’s Director of Program. “Together with Rabbi Rick Jacobs’ popular On the Other Hand podcast, ReformJudaism.org’s daily Ten Minutes of Torah email newsletter, and our commentaries and blog posts, there are now more opportunities for Reform Jewish learning than ever before.”
The translations are available free of charge for personal use only. The Torah: A Modern Commentary is available for purchase in hardcover or eBook format from CCAR Press.
