Reform Movement Mourns the Death of President Jimmy Carter

December 29, 2024 - Over the course of a remarkably long, robust, and impactful life, President Jimmy Carter touched countless lives the world over. Guided by his deep faith, he strove with notable success to leave the earth better than he found it.

By brokering the transformational Camp David accords between Israel and Egypt, President Carter put the power and prestige of the White House behind a peace effort that has held for more than four decades. The accord has kept Israel’s southern border secure and has thus far allowed two generations of Israelis and Egyptians to avoid the violence that plagued their forebears. And though we disagreed with some of President Carter’s later views on the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, there’s no doubt he was driven by an unyielding commitment to creating a peaceful future for all people.

Through the Carter Center, and alongside his beloved wife, Rosalynn, President Carter fought against social ills from poverty to the erosion of democracy. Dictators and despots seeking to deny basic rights to their citizens have been exposed through the work of this remarkable institution.

Whether wielding a hammer with Habitat for Humanity or wielding his presidential power to appoint more women to high level administration positions than any of his predecessors, Jimmy Carter’s life was one of purpose and consequence.

We send our deepest condolences to the entire Carter family. May Jimmy Carter’s memory be for a blessing always.
