A Shabbat Message

June 13, 2025Rabbi Rick Jacobs

This week, as Shabbat approaches, we gather in community to pray for the shelter of peace in Israel and at home.

Israel’s bold strikes against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure have significantly diminished Iran’s aggressive capabilities, making Israel - and the world - safer and our hearts are with our Israeli family as they brace for Iranian reprisals.

At home, recent ICE crackdowns have targeted immigrant communities with cruelty and confusion and constitutional norms are being challenged.

We are proud of the many members of our movement in North America and Israel – congregants, clergy, and seasoned activists of all ages – who at this moment are lifting their voices for a more just, compassionate and righteous world.

Tonight, as we kindle our Shabbat candles, we will pray:

וּפְרוֹשׂ עָלֵֽינוּ סֻכַּת שְׁלוֹמֶךָ:
Ufros aleinu sukkat shlomecha

We ask the Holy One to spread over Israel a shelter of peace, and indeed over all of us here in North America and around the world.
